Guided

A small number of spectators enter the operational prison facility. After undergoing essential security checks, the group is guided further inside, where they encounter the same number of incarcerated individuals. Members of both groups sit one on one facing each other, separated by a small table with tablets in between. As instructions flash on the screens, the interaction begins, for which neither side is fully prepared. What does each of us possess that the other lacks, leading us to occupy opposite sides of the jail fence?

Balancing between performance and social experiment, 'Guided' explores the notion of intersubjectivity and the inner realms of morality, guilt, order, the potential for change and human connection. The authors seek a new form of coexistence in theatre, questioning what is authentic and striving to create a mechanics of performance that actively engages both incarcerated people and their visitors in a provocative yet safe manner.

The show originated from a series of workshops organised in Pravieniškės prison in Lithuania, a country with one of the highest numbers of incarcerations in Europe.
